How To Play Pai Gow Tiles
The biggest adjustment may be that the house always acts as the banker, and the fact that games are one-on-one. Other than that, you shouldn’t expect a great deal of variation. In order to achieve a “pai gow,” a player needs seven cards that are of different ranks (also known as “singletons”). The overall house edge on this bet is 7.35%, and a lower high card—such as a 9—pays more than a Q or K high card. If you have two pair, and the highest pair is jacks through aces, split the pairs by putting the best one in the high hand and the other in the low hand. The exception to this rule occurs when the second pair is deuces.
Any Player’s hand that is set incorrectly (i.e. the two-card low hand ranks higher than the five-card high hand) is considered a “fouled” hand and is an automatic loser. It’s a card variation of the Chinese domino game pai gow, which originated more than 1,000 years ago during the Song Dynasty in 960 AD. The dealer shall deal each card by holding the deck of cards in the chosen hand and use the other hand to remove the top card of the deck and place it face down on the appropriate area of the layout. The dealer shall then determine the starting position for dealing the cards using one of the procedures authorized under § 670a.5. Each card dealt shall be removed from the dealing shoe with the hand of the dealer that is closest to the dealing shoe and placed face down on the appropriate area of the layout with the opposite hand.
If the players have set their hands, they put the two-card hand in front and the five-card hand in the back. But if the hand is set improperly–for example, the two-card hand beating the five-card hand–the hand is either reset or forfeited, depending on the house rules. The point is to make a two-card hand as well as a five-card that can beat both of the banker’s hands.
However, remember whatever you set up top must be beaten by the five-card hand in back. Speaking of commission, the house takes a cut of a player’s winnings, which is usually five percent. Think of it as the rake you might see in a traditional poker game.
It’s no cake walk either, but that doesn’t mean the poker version is difficult. The Designated Player position rotation is offered in a clockwise motion every hand among all eligible Designated Players. Players will notify a staff member if they choose to be a Designated Player. If the Designated Player’s hand is an Ace High Pai Gow only, the Face Up wager is an automatic push. Face Up Pai Gow Poker is played on a table which seats a maximum of seven players. The Pai Gow Poker deck will consist of 53 cards which includes a Joker.
One trick to use when playing pai gow poker online against someone who is new is to tell them that you have an Ace and a King in your hand. However, some dealers are so skilled that they will not only know how to play these cards properly, but they will also know how to bluff their way past just about any reasonable opponent. Hands should be set taking into consideration traditional poker hand rankings – high card, pairs, two pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush, and Royal Flush. When you learn how to deal Pai Gow poker, realize that the player must have a better two card hand and five card hand than the dealer to win his bet. If the player wins one of the two hands, no money is collected. When comparing the dealer’s High Hand with the player’s High Hand, whoever has the highest ranking wins the hand.
